Nordlinger: Impromptus

Impromptus is a never miss column from Jay Nordlinger of NRO. He makes a very good point in his opening today about predictions of doom from the Left:

And what about the secretary-general of the United Nations? In a recent speech, he said, “We have just four months. Four months to secure the future of our planet.” (If you’re interested in the full speech, go here.)

Here is my question: How do the global-warming people expect to be taken seriously when they talk that way? How? Who can take them seriously? I know they want to rev people up, and don’t mind a little exaggeration. But how can they go as far as they do without losing all credibility — indeed, without appearing less than sane?

They can say whatever they want because they're never called on the carpet for their misstatements. The Left never pays a price for being wrong. Look at all of the ills of the 20th century that can be laid at the feet of the Left. How many movies has George Clooney done about the forced famines in the Soviet Union and in China? None. Too many movies to do about neo-cons, McCarthyism and evil corporations that commit mass murder.
